Kanye West and Pusha T have collaborated to create an album which has earned rave reviews, but it is the cover art of the record is sparking conversation.
West, who produced the entire ‘Daytona’ album, is said to have bought the cover art, a picture of Whitney Houston’s drug-covered bathroom, for $85, 000.
A crack pipe, pack of cigarettes, and white powder feature in the 2006 picture.
The image was released to the public following Houston’s death at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Los Angeles, in February 2012.
According to Pusha T, West changed the album cover last minute.
The G.O.O.D Music president said: “He changed my artwork at 1 a.m. ’cause he wasn’t feeling it.”
The picture has drawn West condemnation by a section of Twitter, a pattern the rapper is now very much accustomed to.
Why does Kanye West always use people’s intimate personal life’s and exploit it to the public and then call it art? Famous music video….then using Whitney Houston’s photos…..he is disgusting @kanyewest
But some have chosen to disregard the disturbing album art and focus on the “genius” of the super producer on Pusha T’s album.
A fire album from Pusha T.
Kanye West is a genius producer. Remember when he was being pressed on social media for his rant? Well, the attention span of social media is fickle.
Kanye West wins again.
Wait till his own album drops…
But didn’t y’all say “Kanye West is canceled, he’s trash, hes crazy, washed up” not so long ago? What’s up with “Kanye is a genius” all of a sudden, after the Pusha T album drop? Y’all need to make up ya gad damn minds! #DAYTONA
Daytona was originally titled King Push. It is the follow-up to ‘King Push – Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude’, released in December 2015.
West and Rick Ross are the only featured rappers on the album.
