Dauda Kahutu popularly known as Rara was an indigene of Katsina State.
Rara said he came to Kano more than 20 years ago as an Almajiri but ended up a political singer.
He made this revelations in a Dadin Kowa Hausa television program in Kano.
His song ‘Masu Gudu Su Gudu’ meaning ‘If you want to run, run’ was the most played song in the north after APC’s triumph at the 2015 elections. It was used throughout the celebrations time.
“I love singing and when I came to Kano I found an environment that will help my career”.
He said he finished his education in Arabic and gradually he fully ventured in to full time singing.
“I started singing 13 years ago and I sang many song mostly political songs,”he said.
In 2014 he was arrested and quizzed by the operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) in Kano for his song titled ‘Mai Malafa’ meaning the ‘man wearing the hat’, in the song he mimicked former president Jonathan and his PDP supporters.
The music was released to the market after President Jonathan received the former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano.
He was however released after interrogations.
He also receive an award for recognition by the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in September for his political songs that make lively the whole elections time.
Rara also led a Kannywood delegation to Daura to congratulate Buhari after winning at the polls.
Nabila Sanusi who is also a Student of Linguistic at the Kaduna state University and a promoter of Kannywood Films and music said if there is one personality that dominate the kannywood arena in the last one year, it should be Rara.
“Rara rocked the market. Anywhere you go it is Rara’s song. I personally had discussions with marketers and they all said it was a bumper yield on rara’s songs especial at the time of the elections.
“He sang for APC and you know how people feel about Buhari and APC in the North at that time”. Nabila said
