As a result of the alarming rate of insecurity in the country , a private firm, Prime Alert has launched a new phone application, Prime Alert to support quick response by security agencies to emergency situation.
The Chief Operating Officer of Prime Alert Ibok Offiong while launching the phone application at a press briefing in Abuja recently, noted that Prime Alert Nigeria was founded to effectively bridge the widening gap between emergencies and response which often lead to huge losses.
According to her, their main focus include to promote and enhance public safety through the use of the service, to help speed up improvement in the nation security and emergency services, and to also set up emergency communication system for the country.
Explaining how the application work, Offiong said, the app can be downloaded on mobile phones from the app store, after which the people would be asked to supply the number five family or friends, such that in case of any emergencies.
She said whenever the victim push the red botton and the emergency response is immediately alerted.
She said ” Once we receive any distress alert, Prime Alert immidiately place call to the victim’s family and friend and then place the relevant security agencies.”
She highlighted some of the emergencies to include: Accident and injury, physical or sexual assault, political and civil unrest, terrorist attacks, health problems, fire outbreak, kidnapping, rituals, killings, potential assault, burglary, flood among others.
To achieve this, Offiong said Prime Alert management would be working with all government agencies that handle different emergency cases adding that they cover preparedness, response, mitigation and recovery.
She listed some of the agencies they are collaborating with to include the Nigerian Police to handle mainly crime related emergencies.
Others are Fire services to handle fire relates emergencies, medical to handle medical related emergencies and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to handle flood elated cases.
